An established contractor accountancy firm with over 20 years’ experience, Nixon Williams takes pride in offering flexible, affordable accountancy services to contractors, freelancers and consultants.
The Bottom Line
- To create an online accountancy application for clients
- To improve transparency and value within the organisation
- To recover from the damage left by the previous agency
We were approached by Nixon Williams to design and develop a web-based application that would facilitate their clients to manage invoices, orders and time sheets more effectively.
Previously, Seabrook had been in talks with Nixon Williams regarding this project, however lost out to a local software development agency, recommended by a key stakeholder. Unfortunately, the endorsed agency failed to deliver the required results.
Whilst this was undoubtedly a disappointment for the client, Seabrook was thrilled to be given the opportunity to work on the application, and to guarantee success second time round.
It became apparent that one of the key reasons why the first attempt had floundered was due to the complex requirements of the application itself. To avoid another setback, both parties invested heavily in pre-development – pinning down the goals, expectations and timeline of the project.
First and foremost, the application’s purpose is to help clients better manage and understand their accounts. As such, the user interface (UI) had to be simple and easy to use. Core features, such as invoice management and Sage, needed to communicate coherently with one another.
This, in turn, would make it easier for the firm’s accountants to monitor the financial performance of their clients. They could become more proactive throughout the year in providing not only financial insights, but also opportunities for growth and development.
As you can imagine, this product didn’t appear overnight. To design, build, test and launch the application successfully took real focus at every stage.
A sophisticated web app needs a solid foundation. Here are some of the key building blocks used in this development:
- Adobe Creative Suite
- Lavarel Framework
- Rackspace Hosting
Fast forward 18 months, and we were delighted to find smiles all round when the curtain was unveiled on the final result.
The application was received well by both clients and accountants, and Nixon Williams had a dedicated online accountancy package to include in their arsenal.
The directors were able to sell their shares at a profit, whilst passing the book to a new leadership team who are relishing the opportunity to take charge of a pioneering brand with a spectacular cloud-based portal.
